Medical Services

Doctors

A doctor visits the hospital every day Monday – Friday, on a working day. Each resident is allocated their own doctor, but if they require to be seen at any time, they will be seen by the doctor of the day. Each resident will be seen once a month initially, and more frequently if required. If your next of kin needs to see the doctor on your behalf, then this can be arranged by letting the charge registered nurse of your wing know.

MEDICATIONS

These are prescribed for you by the doctor here and administered to you by the registered nurse as required. We feel that we can keep an eye on your progress more efficiently if we are monitoring your medication.

PODIATRIST

A podiatrist visits regularly and the cost of this is covered by the hospital, where the doctor considers that the service is required for the resident. If it is by request, and not medically required, then the charge is to the resident.

PHYSIOTHERAPY

We have a consultant Physiotherapist on staff. All residents are assessed by the Physio on admission, and an individual program is set for them, if and as appropriate. We have two Physio assistants who are trained to carry out the programs set by the Physiotherapist. The therapist monitors all therapy given and reassesses residents on a regular basis.

Services & Facilities

MEALS

Here at Maygrove Care Orewa, all meals are individually catered for each resident by the kitchen attached to the village. A consultant dietitian has been involved in the menu setting. Tea & coffee making facilities are available in the hospital dining room area. Extra food is always available for our residents if they desire. Visitors may order meals in advance and share dining with their relative or friend, at a reasonable price.

LAUNDRY

All laundry is washed on site in our hospital laundry which is well equipped with commercial washing machines and dryers. All clothing must be clearly marked to ensure that it is returned to the correct resident. We will do our best to see that this happens but can take no responsibility for loss or damage. You are strongly advised not to bring treasured, delicate clothing or finely knitted woolens. A labeling service is available.

HAIRDRESSER

A hairdresser visits the hospital twice a week. Please see the nurse in charge of the wing to arrange for this service. The resident is responsible for the cost of hairdressing. We request that no money is given directly to the hairdresser. Instead, the charge will be added to the resident’s account.

TELEPHONE

We have portable phones that can be taken to the resident if required. The bedrooms are also pre-wired for a personal phone connection. The receptionist needs to be notified if this is a requirement, as a monthly fee and toll call charges apply.

TELEVISION

The facility has a TV for general use in the main lounge area. All bedrooms have an outside aerial plug. If you are supplying your own TV, you will need to supply all connecting cables. Sky TV is available at the resident’s expense and can be arranged by contacting Sky Services.

MAIL

This is delivered daily to you in person, or if more appropriate to your representative. Our Activities Coordinator will read mail to residents as required and if appropriate.

ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES

The use of electric blankets requires the approval of the nurse manager. They must be checked annually by a registered electrician, and a copy of the safety certificate kept on file. Annual safety checks are also required for personal items such as fans, fridges, and mobility scooters. The cost of this is to the resident and not the facility.

ADVOCATE

Our independent resident advocate’s name is displayed in the hospital foyer. She meets with the residents once a month and is available any other time if contacted.

RESIDENT REVIEW MEETING

Shortly after admission, and thereafter approximately six monthly, a review meeting will be held for each resident. The purpose of this is for the nursing managers to discuss each individual’s plan of care with them, their chosen representative, or both. You will be informed by your ward coordinator of these meetings in advance, and invited to attend.

Please remember this is your home while you are here, and we will do everything we can to make your stay with us as comfortable and pleasant as possible.
